Week 9: Space + Art
Surrounding us entirely, not seen nor felt, it engulfs our being: space. This week’s topic is one I thoroughly enjoyed. To me, it is absolutely mind-boggling to see ourselves in perspective to the universe as demonstrated in the Powers of 10 video. Knowing that we are not even a spec in the universe is no wonder that there have been many sci-fi movies on the possibilities of an alternate life in some planet far off in the universe. We can see this, rightfully so, the narrative in popular films such as alien, E.T., Mars, and The Clover Field Paradox.
Sci-FI Idea of Aliens
Space has always been something to conquer as represented in this week's lecture. From the great space race to the current privatization of space, we are constantly finding ways to travel through space. I had no idea that we were working on ways to commercialize space, but now that I do I guess I better start saving up.
Commercial Space Flight
The idea presented by professor Vesna that space has been a sort of cap that embodies all of the previous lectures couldn't truer. Space plays on the art of robotics, culture, nanotechnology and others. Space is vastly unknown, but the further we create and the further we push our boundaries, we can continue to discover the space between us.

Hi Nicolas,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point that space seems to be a larger than life, or all of humanity, topic. Because space holds such vastness and uncertainty, I too agree that it allows for human creativity to run rampant with ideas of alternate universes and other science fiction related content. Because Copernicus used mathematics for his heliocentric model of space, I immediately thought of the movie Good will Hunting, which also centers around mathematics. I wonder if the movie could have taken an approach to address to the art of mathematics and space together as Matt Damon and Robin Williams ponder through therapy the meaning of life.
