The Hammer Museum
The Hammer Museum is by far my favorite museum. I love to go to this museum multiple times a year, and it is not just for those spinning chairs that everyone loves. The hammer museum offers so much from artists, to sculpturist, to composers. All of these art forms are expressed here at the Hammer in such an aesthetically pleasing take. I know im biased when i say this, but i think i speak for everyone when i say that everything about this museum is amazing!
Tschabalala Self
When I recently visited this museum this quarter I now went with a purpose. Having some newfound knowledge of art, I was looking at the different pieces in a new critical light. One of the pieces that really struck my eye this time when i went was Tschabalala Self’s piece. The Bodega Run was an installation with art, sculptures, collages and sewing.
Bodega Run
Self’s piece examines the neighborhood convenience store as both a gathering place for community and a microcosm of how current economic and political issues are impacting people’s lives. Her instillation was liberating, new, and very much current in today's climate around race and women. There is always many other pieces by many other talented creators.
The museum is always offering pieces that push the boundaries and for anyone who has never been should definitely make an effort to go.
